We were delighted overall with the tour, especially the naturalist, Arpita in the Sunderbans and our guide Babitosh. We loved Naren and driver Santu who met us at Siliguri and then travelled with us for 8 days in West Bengal in Sikkim.

Our overnight train tickets to Varanasi weren't correct, even though Hollie had been very vigilant with the booking, as it was coming up to Holi, the trains were full, and we were unable to get the seats changed, even though Naren tried.

Gill and I were in 33 and 34, which is one up and one down, Doug was in berth no 1, at the end of the carriage. Fortunately, Gill and I were with two soldiers, one of which swopped the bottom bunk for the top for us. There is no way that Gill could have got up to a top bunk as she has had a hip replacement.

Elgin hotel at Darjeeling could do with a good clean, staff could do with training!”  

The tour offered very little time to experience the locations at your own pace. We understand the tour was trying to take in as much as possible in the time available, but felt more free time could have been factored into the tour. Maybe extending by a day or two would help. The planning and organisation of the tour was of a high standard.

The guide, Yusef was excellent. His knowledge of the places we visited was tremendous.

He reacted to the needs of the group and laid on extra activities (Bollywood dancer in Agra). He managed a difficult situation very well when returning from Shimla by train, the coach was not present at Delhi railway station and caught up in traffic. Yusef organised alternative transport and guided us through the circumstances after a very long and tiring day of travelling.

The trip to Alsisar and the school visit was the low point of the tour for us. We did not feel welcomed at the school by their staff and teachers. Although supporting the school is a good cause the school visit did not add further cause justification. The Alsisar visit involved two quite long days of travelling for little enjoyment. The journey back from Alsisar to Delhi involved 9 hours coach travelling which was excessive when we considered the overall Alsisar indifference we saw.

The tour was made an overall enjoyable experience by the friends we made. This helped us get through the travelling on the last day.
