Desert Fossils

Departing at approximately 8:00 from your hotel, we drive southwest to Fayoum, an area famous for its prehistoric fossils and the Fayoum portraits which decipher Egyptian and Greco-Roman beliefs about death and the afterlife. In Fayoum, you'll transfer to a 4x4 vehicle for our desert safari.

Heading deeper into the desert, we visit Wadi El Rayan, home to Egypt’s only waterfalls as well as scenic lakes and towering sand dunes. We enjoy a BBQ lunch here before continuing on our 4X4 safari to Wadi al Hitan, also known as the Valley of Whales. This UNESCO-listed site is famed for the discovery of petrified primitive whale skeletons, shark teeth, shells and roots of Mangroves preserved in soft rocks. Everywhere you go here you will find petrified sea shell and corals.

After exploring the unique area, we head to Egypt's largest saltwater lake, Lake Qaroun. Here you will enjoy a memorable ride on a felucca, a traditional Egyptian sailboat. Then, its back to Cairo, arriving back at your hotel at approximately 19:00.
