About The Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta in south-east Vietnam is one of the world’s greatest river regions. The delta is a hive of activity and serves as a crucial transport and agricultural hub. Known as the ‘rice bowl of Vietnam’, this lush and fertile region produces more than enough rice to feed the whole country and also harvests a bountiful supply of sugar cane, coconut and fruit. With verdant rice paddy fields, colourful fruit orchards, enchanting villages and bustling floating markets, it is also an area of incredible beauty. Life thrives on the delta, which is home to hundreds of species of animals and fish, not to mention its human inhabitants. The gateway to the Mekong Delta is the market town of My Tho and further on from here is Can Tho, the largest city in the region. Facing the water, Can Tho is a lively city with pleasant sculpted gardens and narrow alleys branching off attractive wide boulevards. It's famous for its floating markets where local traders sell their wares.

Those short on time can enjoy a day trip to the Mekong Delta from Ho Chi Minh City and discover the magic of life along the riverbanks aboard a traditional sampan boat, stopping to explore remote villages and islands, learn about local trade and barter for goods at Cai Be floating market.
